On March 28 9:00 am in the morning I ran in the 2nd annual Weatherford's Tough Enough 5k race. The weather conditions for this year's race was not very good. I left for the race 7:00 am Saturday morning from Yukon, Ok with Troy and Donna Banks in their Suburban. The roads on Interstate 40 were slick and hazardous. I keep thinking to myself, I can't believe I'm running in this race in these snowy conditions. It would be the first time since I started back running seven years ago I did a race in the snow. I was well prepared as I had on two pairs of thermal underalls, two pairs of socks, gloves, and my winter skull cap. I wore my sunglasses to keep the snow and ice out of my eyes. I usually get warmed up during a race when I'm running but this time the very cold wind kelp me cool. I stopped a couple of time during the race when I started running north against the very cold air to catch a breather.
Then halfway though the race I almost sliped on some ice and fell but managed to keep my balance. Knowing all the winter stuff I had on; had I fell and hit the ice I knew the race would have been over for me very early. I was very glad to see the finish line even though someone at the finish said I had another lap to go. I was thinking " Who is he foolin".
There were 90 runners that took part in the 5k race that raised 5000 for Cancer. I got first in my age group only because there was no one else but me that ran the 5k race that age. What a way to win your division. After all I'd been though that day I was going to take what I could get regardless of the outcome. They gave us a fifty dollar check for coming in first in our age group, I thought "Wow I'm going to deposit it when I get back to Oklahoma City. It turns out I can only use the check in Weatherford, Ok at the restaurants and business they had on the back of the check. And the check is only good for three months. I didn't care I actually won a prize I thought, after running in a blizzard.
Would I run in something like this again. Maybe, I thought this run was more fun than the Sooner State Games 12k trail run I got injured in over two years ago and a lot more challenging. Take care my readers; love ya!!!

Tough Enough 5k Race
Last year around this time I ran a 5k race in Weatherford, Ok called the Tough Enough. I thought this was a very good race even though it was 19 degrees outside that morning. The race took place at Southwestern Okla State University where I went to college 19 years ago!!! The proceeds for that race went towards Cancer. The race started at the college library and went south toward downtown Weatherford which was mostly downhill. Coming back toward the college is where it got a little hilly. I won't tell you the rest until you actually run it which is next weekend on the 28 of March. I got 2 place in this one in my age group and did it with little effort.
Whoever wants to run this one with me this year won't be disappointed. You'll love this one especially if you went to school there!! They have excellent door prizes and a morning breakfast in the cafeteria so don't miss this one. Take care everyone and happy running!!!
